TRAVERSE CITY -- Round one went to Traverse City West.
The Titans earned a Big North Conference victory over rival TC Central at Howe Arena on Tuesday with a 4-2 victory.
TC West (5-1, 3-0 BNC) took a 1-0 lead in the first period when Mitch Snider scored off assists from Nate Alger and Shane Totten.
The score stood until the second period when the Trojans tied it off a Christian Machelski goal from Cooper Macdonell and Jared VanWormer.
West added second period goals from Alex Grizzel (Zach Franklin) and Luke Gerding, but the Trojans made it 3-2 with 8 seconds to go before the break when VanWormer scored off a Trevor Mattis assist.
Totten scored short-handed late in the third to put the game away.
"It was our best defensive game of the year so far," Titans coach Jeremy Rintala said. "We buckled down and didn't give up and second opportunities."
Nate Wilson made 17 saves for TC West while Bill Vermetten had 25 stops for the Trojans.
