SAULT STE. MARIE -- For the second night in a row, a Traverse City team scored in the final minute of play to beat Sault Ste. Marie in hockey.

This time it was Traverse City Central.

A night after West edged the Blue Devils 5-4 on a goal with two seconds left, Central's Shane Darrow scored with 53 seconds to go to lift the Trojans to a 2-1 win Friday night.

Darrow's goal came after a scramble in front of the net. Jared VanWormer and Derek Gardiner assisted.

"The Sault has a good team," Central coach Chris Givens said. "They definitely have the potential to a make a run (in Division 3). They have good size, they skate well and they move the puck.

"I was a little concerned because we've had a long layoff. But we played real well."

The Blue Devils scored on the first shift 22 seconds into the game when Marcus Andary tallied off assists from Zac Ewing and Peter Formollo.

Central (17-6-1) tied the game 3:27 into the second period on a Eric Swy goal. Dane Macdonell assisted.

That set the stage for Darrow's heroics in the third.

Dan Spencer and Hunter Kelly shared goaltending duties for the Trojans, who host Mid-Michigan on Monday in a Division 2 pre-regional at Howe Arena.

"This was a good game for both teams right before the playoffs," Givens said.
