Bay Area Reps News Story December 27th, 2007
TRAVERSE CITY -- The host Trojans and TC West both posted victories Thursday in the first round of the TC Central Holiday Hockey Tournament.
TC Central advanced with a 4-1 victory over the Bay Reps and will face Birmingham Unified -- a 5-2 winner over Dexter on Thursday -- in today's second semifinal at 7:15 p.m.
TC West will face Orchard Lake St. Mary's in the 4:45 p.m. semifinal today. The Titans topped Dearborn Divine Child 7-5 while St. Mary edged Saginaw Heritage 4-3 in overtime.
TC Central shook off a slow start to top the Reps.
The Trojans led 2-0 after two periods, getting a goal in the first from Jared VanWormer and in the second from Derek Gardiner, assisted by Devin Senchuk.
The Reps cut the gap to 2-1 just 1:49 into the final period on a goal by Jake Mills, assisted by Grayson Myas.
Three minutes later, VanWormer gave Central a 3-1 lead and Travis Clary closed out the scoring with 4:04 left. Adam Swy assisted on both goals.
"I thought in the first period we played tight," Central coach Chris Givens said. "But then I thought we played stronger in the second period and even stronger in the third, especially when the Reps made it 2-1."
Central outshot the Reps 14-4 in the final period.
Hunter Kelly had 16 saves in net for West while Andrew Mills turned aside 30 shots for the Reps.
